Cpl. Albert “Mutt” Mazzorana, 36, of Spring Valley was killed in action November 9th, 1944, in Germany while serving with the 134th Engineer Combat Battalion, 117th Engineer Combat Group. Albert was well-known to his many friends as “Mutt.” The word of his death was received by his wife who was in Kansas City working in an airplane factory. Mutt saw action in many battles on several continents. He took part in the initial invasion of Africa where his boat was sunk in the landing, but he continued through the campaign. When the Nazis were cleaned out of that area, he entered Sicily with the invasion forces on July 19, 1942. He participated in the action at Palermo and Trapani. At the close of that drive, he went to Italy then was sent to England and participated in the invasion of France on June 6, 1943. He also fought in Belgium and Luxembourg before going into Germany.
