Pvt. Thomas Salmon, 24, was killed in his first action in Horbourg-Wihr-en-Plaine on January 30, 1945, less than six months after joining the Army. Thomas attended Hall Township High School where he was a star basketball player. He was the father of two sons, Richard Thomas, 7, and Thomas John, 3. Before his induction on August 14, 1944, he worked for his father at Salmon’s Grocery Store on East St. Paul Street. It is believed that he had been in France only about 10 days before being fatally wounded. He was one of three brothers in the armed services–Pfc. Edward, a Marine, and Pfc. Vincent, of the Army’s Fifth cavalry, were both serving in the Pacific theater at the time of Thomas’ death.

Hi!
Thomas John Salmon was my uncle. I never met him as he was killed in action before I was born. He was my dad's brother(Vincent Salmon) , His parents were Edward and Mary Salmon. They owned Salmon's Grocery Store on East St Paul St in Spring Valley. Tom was born on April 13, 1920 and 9 days after he arrived in Horbourg-Wihr-en-Plaine, France he was killed. The date was Jan. 30, 1945. Tom served for 5 months in the army.
Tom was married and had two sons, Richard and Thomas Salmon.
I have been working on a family tree but right now I have not been actively researching. If I come up with anything else I will forward it. There is a picture of him on a memorial flag hanging in SV.
