SSgt. Andrew Robich, 26, died in Anzio, Italy on January 25th, 1944. He graduated from Hall Township High School with the Class of 1936, where he was a star lineman on the football team. At the time of his enlistment in the Army on February 18, 1941, he was employed as a carpenter with Austin Flooring company in Chicago. He arrived in Africa on November 8, 1942, following a 15-day crossing. Not long afterward, he was hospitalized as the result of an accident in which his hand was punctured by a nail. He participated in the invasion and battle of Sicily and was well on his way to Italy when he became ill with yellow jaundice and was sent back to a hospital in North Africa in October. In a letters written to his family just days before his death, he wrote that things were going well with him in Italy. He was one of three brothers serving in the armed forces.
