2LT Eugene Kuhre, 19, was fatally injured in the flaming crash landing of his night patrol plane near New Orleans, Louisiana on March 7, 1943. He attended Hall Township High School and Mendota Township High School, but he left the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, enlisting in the Army Air Corps, December 11, 1941. He received advanced flight training and advanced training as a bomber pilot. Lt. Kuhre was recently transferred to New Orleans and was on Gulf of Mexico patrol duty near New Orleans when the plane he was piloting caught fire, and he was forced to make a crash landing. All three men aboard perished. Kurhe left behind his wife of only two months.
