Private First Class John "Bud" Boroski

Pfc. John F. Boroski, 21, was reported missing in action on September 20, 1943, in the Southwest Pacific. He was a graduate of Hall Township High School with the Class of 1943, and was employed with the Seneca shipyard when he entered service with the Marine Corps November 13, 1943. John had only been in uniform 10 months when he was declared missing in action. Mrs. Boroski never gave up hope that by some miracle her only son would still be found alive, although she admitted that evidence to the contrary was overwhelming. His parents had as treasured possessions their son’s medals and Presidential Citation. His family used the money their son earned in the service to dedicate a room in his honor at St. Margaret’s hospital.

Matume John F. Boroski Missing SPRING VALLEY. Just a da over a year from the date of his enlistment in the marines, Pfc. John F. Boroski has been reported miss-ing in action in the Southwest Pa-cific, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Boroski, from the war department. A graduate of Hall township high school with the class of 1943, he was employed at the Seneca shipyard when he entered service Nov. 13, 1943. He was sent to San Diego, Calif., for boot training and later was transferred to Camp Elliott, Calif., before going overseas last April.

DEDICATE ROOM IN HOSPITAL TO S. V. WAR HERO Mr. And Mrs. John Bor-oski Honor Son Lost In Pacific Action Included in the contributions to the St. Margaret's hospital building fund today was a $600 gift from Mr. and Mrs. John Boroski of 524 South Spaulding street which has more than ordinary significance. With this gift the Boroski's ded-icate one room of the new hospital addition to the eternal memory of their son, Pic. John Francis Boroski, who is presumed to have fallen in action on Pelelien island in the Southwest Pacific. When Mrs. Boroski, the former Miss Jennie Boetto, called James Barto of the campaign committee to make arrangements for this gift, she became the first to dedicate a room in the new hospital addition to the memory of a war hero. Accordingly, a nameplate will ap-pear on one of the hospital rooms as a living memorial to the young army hero who was first declared missing in action on September 20, 1944. It was on Jan. 22, 1946, that the War department declared him legally dead and so informed the parents. Never-theless, Mrs. Boroski declares she never will give up hope that by some miracle her only son will still be found alive, although she admits that evidence to the contrary is over-whelming. One of the young men in Private Boroski's outfit has informed her that her son is buried on Pelelieu despite the fact that the War depart-ment declares there is no grave re-gistered for him. The Boroski's have hav as treasured possessions their son's medals and presidential ecitation but felt that through the "purchase" of a room in the hospital they would be creat-ing a memorial that will live forever. "In addition," Mrs. Boroski told the GAZETTE," this money was his-earned by him in the service-and we could think of no better way of using it." Private Boroski, who entered the army at the tender age of 18, had been in uniform only 10 months when he was declared missing in ae-tion. On Nov. 13, 1943 he left Chi-cago for jungle training in San Diego, Cal., from where he was sent to the Solomons and then into the Pacific invasion. Ironically, the Boroski's never saw their son from the day they watched him board a Rock Island Lines train for Chicago to report for bisie train-ing.
