Pfc. Fred “Fritz” Nestler, 19, was killed in action March 19, 1945, near Zweibrucken, Germany. It was just three days after his 19th birthday. Fritz was working for his father at the former Gunther Ice Cream factory before he was inducted August 14, 1944. At the time of his death, he had two brothers in service–Pfc. Edward in Italy and Sgt. Oscar in France. He was a member of company L, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Division. He is buried in Lorraine American Cemetery, St. Avold (Moselle), France.
