Pfc. Harold Lucas, 19, was fatally wounded in action in Germany December 16, 1944. He was the third Seatonville fatality in World War II. His brother was also enlisted at the time of Harold’s death. Harold’s mother received a letter from Major General Lumford E. Oliver which expressed the sorrow of the entire command: “Your son was one of the most popular men in his company. His good nature won many close friends among his fellow soldiers. He was a man upon whom officers and men could rely on in any situation. He never let any of his companions down when the going was hard and difficult. His passing has caused great grief among his comrades-in-arms. Private First Class Lucas was engaged against the enemy in Germany on 16 December 1944. The mission had been successful. Positions were changed and it was during this time that he was hit by mortar fire. He was immediately evacuated under great difficulty and given first aid. However, he died of his wounds shortly after.”
